Berhampur: Silk Weavers Showroom Starts Functioning in Hardakhandi with Support of Mission Shakti SHGs

Berhampur: A state-of-the-art Silk Weaver’s workshop and showroom has started functioning at Hardakhandi in Berhampur from today.

The centre, managed by women self-help groups of Mission Shakti , will help 20 SHGs who will produce Berhampur Patta Silk sarees.

The center has been set up with the help of the Union Government’s MSME Enterprises at a cost of Rs 1. 3 Crore. There are 15 weaving units at the center which will be managed by 2 SHGs.

In the first phase, 200 weavers will be trained and 200 sarees will be produced. Weavers will also be provided help for procurement of raw materials for their produce. This will help the famous Berhampur Patta sarees to flourish again with the use of advanced technology and facilities.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated the center in December 2021. The aim was to strengthen the economic condition of the weaver community and popularise the traditional Berhampur Patta.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Siddeshwar Baliram Bondar has said “We have been trying to bring back the glory of Berhampur weavers by supporting them through various means. With the success of the first phase, we will enhance the capacity of the center. We request all from the weaving community to come forward and join hands with the administration to reinvent the famous weaving culture of Odisha”.

The State Government will provide all kinds of help including loans, materials and market linkage, he added.
