New Delhi: Direct flight from Bhubaneswar to Dubai is likely to be commenced at the earliest, said Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said here today.
Replying to a question from BJD MP Dr. Sasmit Patra, Puri said, “Flights are operated by private carriers. But soon to a request to see from Chief Minister of Odisha, we have been in touch with various private carriers. And it is our expectation that one of the private carriers will be able to commence the flight at the earliest”.

When Dr. Patra asked whether direct flights to Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Singapore would be commenced to boost tourism as Odisha shares a strong cultural and Buddhist heritage bonding from the time of the Kalingan era of maritime trade, Puri said, “The decision on whether a particular route to be operationalized will be entirely taken by private carriers themselves .So if there is a demand for a particular sector, then I would recommend that the concerned authority directly reach out to the air service providers or through us. We are happy to facilitate the discussions and commencement of direct flight is depend on the council viability of that sector, Puri added.
Notably, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on July 13 urged the Centre to take steps for launching of direct international flight between Bhubaneswar and Dubai to meet the growing need of travellers.
