Bihar Polls: JDU and BJP Reportedly Reach Consensus on 50:50 Seat Sharing

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United (JDU) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have reached a ’50-50′ seat-sharing formula for the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2020.

Four top JDU leaders Lalan Singh, RCP Singh, Vijay Chaudhary and Vijender Yadav met Bihar BJP election in-charge Devender Fadnavis and General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav for the final round of discussion between the BJP and the JDU in Patna.

According to sources, the JDU will contest the elections from 122 out of the total 243 seats in the state Assembly. Meanwhile, the BJP has agreed to field candidates from 121 Assembly constituencies.

Nitish Kumar will have to accommodate Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM) within its quota of seats while the BJP will share its seats with Ram Vilas Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
Chirag Paswan has been bargaining hard with the BJP over seat-sharing for the past few days, demanding at least 42 seats. BJP, on the other hand, has offered 15 seats to LJP to contest the Bihar Election 2020.
