Biju Mahila Janata Dal Stages Protest against Rising Fuel Prices, Essential Commodities

Bhubaneswar: Lambasting the Centre over increasing prices of fuel and essential commodities, the Biju Mahila Janata Dal, the women wing of the Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal, today staged protests over the issue across the State.

The BMJD members held massive protests in all the 147 Assembly constituencies over the unprecedented hike in prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and essential commodities.

In Bhubaneswar, the BJD women wing staged demonstrations before the ADM office while other parts demonstrations were held at petrol pumps.

Thousands BJD leaders and workers joined the protests raising slogans against the BJP-led Central government for its failure in checking the soaring prices of petrol., diesel, cooking gas and essential commodities.

Earlier on Sunday, the BJD staged a protest near Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar over the issue.

The BJD members rode cycles, rickshaws and rallied on foot as a mark of protest against the spiraling rise in the prices of fuel. The women workers were seen burning chullahs to protest against the hike in the price of the LPG cylinders.
The BJD workers have submitted a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind through Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal.

The ruling party said that following the steep rise in the fuel prices and the imposition of GST and other cess by the Union government, consumers are suffering a lot.

The BJD also threatened to intensify the protest if the Central government does not roll back the price hike.
