Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are illegally influencing the voters in Dhamnagar Assembly Constituency where the by-poll is scheduled to be held on November 3.
A delegation of the BJD met Chief Electoral Officer here and submitted a complaint in this regard.
Over the past few days since the campaigning has started in Dhamnagar, the BJP leaders are clandestinely meeting voters and forcibly trying to influence them through cash and other means, the BJD alleged.
This is not a new trend from the BJP. In the past, whether it is the Panchayat and Urban local body elections or the many Assembly by-polls in Odisha, it has been seen that the BJP in the fear of losing elections usually resorts to influencing voters using cash and other means illegally. They have started the practice in Dhamnagar as well fearing their upcoming by-poll electoral defeat, the ruling party said.
The BJD delegation has asked the Chief Electoral Officer to look into the matter and ensue free and fair election in the constituency.
