Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has proposed to acquire private lands for drain development in the city.
The BMC is planning to acquire the lands over which 13 natural drains are passing by. All the rain water from its catchment area do release in gangue through these drains.
In order to prevent water logging in the city the plan of drain development submitted to the Housing and Urban Development Department has reflected acquisition of 61.438 acres of private land in throughout a stretch of 65.621 Km of drainage system. This may cost Rs. 753 crore for acquisition, sources said.
BMC is now depending on Transferable Development Right Act 2015 (TDR Act 2015) or direct purchase method for land plan and land schedule already been prepared. The proposal is now under the technical scrutiny of H and UD, Govt. of Odisha. The moment funds will be available to BMC this work can be completed in order to address the issue, sources said.
