BMC To Double Capacity in Social Equity Centres

Bhubaneswar: Keeping in view the decreasing temperatures, particularly during night, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has decided to double the capacity of the Social Equity Centre to one hundred.

According to a statement issued by the BMC, it is emphasising on quick action to rescue homeless persons, beggars to prevent any mishap during the current winter season. Due to the increasing requirement of keeping people inside the Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH), BMC has decided to increase the capacity of Social Equity Centre from 50 to 100. The increased status will be operated as per Govt provisions. If the number of persons requiring shelter or rescued persons increases more than the capacity of all eight SUHs, the city administration will go for another 50 beded temporary SUH to accommodate the inmates. Timely and instant mobilisation will be done to rescue people sleeping on streets. Two agencies in charge of managing the SUHs have been instructed for regular mobilisation with the support of local police and BMC.
