Cafe Coffee Day Founder VG Siddhartha’s Body Found

Bengaluru: After a 36-hour search operation, the body of Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha, who had gone missing from Mangaluru on Monday night, was found early on Wednesday morning.

The body was found by a group of fishermen from Netravati river at 6.30 am on Wednesday, according to media reports.

Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada Sasikanth Senthil said, “A body has been found and it appears to be of Cafe Coffee Day owner VG Siddhartha.”

The CCD owner’s family and friends have identified the body, said Congress MLA from Mangaluru, UT Khader, media reports stated.

Siddhartha’s body will likely be taken to his village Cheekanahalli near Chikkamagaluru, where his parents live.

Siddhartha, son-in-law of former Chief Minister of Karnataka SM Krishna, founded the country’s largest coffee chain. The businessman  was last seen walking on the bridge by his driver Basavaraj Patil.

An extensive search operation was conducted since Tuesday morning, using the best of swimmers and latest equipment, to trace him.

A letter, supposedly written by Siddhartha, surfaced on Tuesday. It said he had failed as an entrepreneur and faced harassment from income tax officials.
