Consumer Welfare Measures: Odisha Govt Raids 45 Jewellery Shops, Collects Rs 3.77 Lakh Fine for Cheating Consumers

Bhubaneswar: In yet another step towards consumer welfare, the Odisha Government has raided at least 45 jewellery shops in six cities of the State and collected Rs 3.77 lakh fines from the shops.

The search which was carried out from November 22 to 25, officials found that jewellery shops were charging for 22 carat gold while providing 14 carat gold.

Besides, these shops were cheating customers while weighing the jewellery.

Meanwhile, Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain said notices will be issued to these shops soon.

Raids were carried out at 10 jewellery shops in Bhubanrswar and It was found that eight shops were tampering with weight of gold jewellery.

Similarly, six jewellery shops in Berhampur were involved in weight tampering and five shops in Cuttack were found to cheat consumers.

Four shops in Balasore, two in Rourkela and five in Sambalpur were also found cheating consumers.
