Core Sanitation Workers in Bhubaneswar Get Garima ID Cards on World Environment Day 

Bhubaneswar: The Core Sanitation Workers (CSWs) in Bhubaneswar on Monday received the Garima ID Card on the occasion of World Environment Day.

“Toda, Garima ID Card was distributed to the Core Sanitation Workers (CSWs) under Garima Scheme on World Environment Day The Standing Committee Members (Health & Sanitation), Asst. Comm, joined in the meeting & distributed the ID Cards to them”, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation said.

The Odisha Government has decided to provide ID Cards to the CSWs across 115 ULBs in the State under “Garima” scheme, a first of its kind scheme implemented for the safety, dignity and welfare of Core Sanitation Workers. The scheme seeks to improve the socio-economic conditions of sanitation workers and their families by providing a comprehensive package that ensures service-level benefits, social security and financial benefits to the Core Sanitation Workers and their families, according to an official release.

The Garima scheme covers CSWs who deal with human faecal waste. Under Garima, Core Sanitation Work includes dislodging of onsite sanitation systems, maintenance of sewerage network, cleaning of drains, operation and maintenance of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs), and cleaning, operation and maintenance of public and community toilets which involves dealing with human faecal matter in varying degrees.
