Cyclone Gulab: More Than 39 Thousand People Evacuated To Safer Places In State

Bhubaneswar: While the landfall process of Cyclone Gulab has completed and it crossed between South Odisha and North Andhra coast, there have been no reports of any casualty and major destruction to property. The district administrations made adequate arrangements to safeguard life and property. In total, 42 ODRAF teams, 24 NDRF teams, and 103 Fire Department teams were engaged in the most affected areas of the state.

In view of the Cyclone, the administrations in the southern districts evacuated more than 39 thousand people from low laying areas to safe shelters. While 10500 people in Ganjam were shifted to safer places, 8260 people in Koraput were evacuated to the shelters. Likewise, 6582 and 2360 people were moved to safer places in Malkangiri and Rayagada respectively.

Speaking to media, SRC Pradeep Jena has said that the impact of the Cyclone was not much in the state and precautionary measures by district administrations helped in zero causality. The district administrations have also made arrangements to deal with the ensuing rains that will occur in the affected areas.
