Cyclone Jawad: Deep Depression to Intensify Into Cyclonic Storm

Bhubaneswar: Depression over south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

“The Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 32 kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 11.30 pm of December 2, 2021, over the same region near Latitude 12.0°N and Longitude 87.5°E, about 770 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 850 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 920 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha),” stated the Met Centre.

“It is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over central parts of Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. It is likely to reach west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts around December 4 morning. Thereafter it is likely to move north-northeastwards,” it added.

Under the influence of the system, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of south coastal Odisha and at a few places over rest districts Odisha on December 3.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower is expected to occur at most places over districts of coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of interior Odisha on December 4 while light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of north coastal Odisha and at many places over rest districts of Odisha on December 5.
The Met Centre has also issued yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Ganjam and Gajapati districts with heavy rainfall at one or two places over Koraput, Rayagada, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada district till 8.30 am on Friday.

Red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls (more than 20 cm) has been issued for Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur on December 4.

Similarly, orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput while yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been sounded for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Malkangiri district on December 4.

On December 5, orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, and Puri district while yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been sounded in Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khordha, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
