Keonjhar: The Keonjhar Additional District and sessions Judge on Thursday pronounced death sentence to a man for rape and murder of a three year old girl. The incident occurred in 2017 in Keonjhar’s Sasanga village under Champua police station limits. The convict, twenty year old Sunil Kumar Naik, a relative of the victim took her to a secluded place and raped her. He also killed the girl to conceal his crime.
Additional District Court and Special Court Judge Lokanath Sahu pronounced the capital punishment. The accused has been charged under different sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. The court awarded death penalty to the convict after taking into account statements of 28 witnesses. The available evidence and the medico legal findings presented by the police were sufficient to term the crime as rarest of the rarest.
According to the police, the convict, who was from the Sasang village, was a relative of the girl and therefore visited her house frequently. He lured the victim in the guise of giving chocolates and took her to a nearby school and raped her. He also killed the three year old girl brutally.
