Delhi Govt. Has No Money to Pay Salary of Its Employees, Seeks ₹5000 Cr from Centre

New Delhi: The lockdown for more than two months now has taken a heavy toll on the Delhi government’s treasury and now unable to pay staff salaries, state’s deputy chief minister and finance minister Manish Sisodia said today.

In a press briefing, Sisodia said, “I have written to the central government to pay ₹5,000 crores so that salaries for government employees can be made.”

“The tax collection of the Delhi government is running low at about 85% due to lockdown. Further, Delhi has not received any funds from the Disaster Relief Fund as released by the Centre to the remaining states,” he added.

Delhi is the third worst-hit area in India, with 18,549 Covid-19 positive cases, including 416 deaths, so far.
