Eoin Morgan Hits 17 Sixes, Most Number in an ODI Innings

New Delhi: England captain Eoin Morgan hit 17 sixes in his innings against Afghanistan in the 24th World Cup match at Manchester on Tuesday, breaking the record for the most number of sixes by a batsman in an ODI innings.

The previous record was held jointly by Chris Gayle, Rohit Sharma and AB de Villiers with 16 sixes each.

Morgan scored his century in 57 balls, breaking the record for the fastest century by an England batsman in the history of the World Cup.His innings came to an end at 148 off 71 balls.

This was also the fourth fastest century by any batsman in the history of the World Cup.

Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien holds the record for the fastest World Cup hundred off 50 balls,  against England in 2011.

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell has the 2nd fastest World Cup hundred off 51 balls while former South Africa batsman AB de Villers is 3rd in the list with a hundred off 55 balls.

Morgan’s century helped England to post 397/6 in 50 overs against Afghanistan, their highest ever World Cup total.
