Female Elephant ‘Julie’ Dies at Nandankanan Zoological Park

Bhubaneswar: A female elephant named ‘Julie’ died at Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoological Park here on Monday due to acute abdominal colic.

She accepted less feed since yesterday and was showing sign of acute colic from 2.00 PM today causing physical discomfort. She died at 7.09 PM today during treatment, sources said.

Julie was rescued at the age of two month from Dhenkanal Division and arrived at Nandankanan zoo in May 2009.

The exact cause of death shall be ascertained after Post Mortem tomorrow morning, sources said.

With the death of Julie, the Nandankanan zoo has now one male and six female elephants.
