Cuttack: Gangster Sheikh Hyder sustained injuries in a police encounter near Simulia in Balasore district on Saturday.
The incident took place while the gangster was being shifted from Choudwar jail to Baripada jail, according to reports.
Police had to open fire at Hyder when he tried to escape.
