Hirakud: 28 Sluice Gates Opened Till Now; Six Lakh Cusecs Water To Flow Through Munduli By Tomorrow Morning

Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened four more sluice gates of the Dam taking the total number of gates open to 28. While 20 gates are open in the left side, 8 are open in the right side. The decson has been taken in view of the rising level of water in Mahanadi due heavy rains in the upper catchment areas of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The Munduli Barrage in Cuttack will receive about six lakh cusecs of water by tomorrow morning and it is expected that the water level in all the downstream areas will increase in the coming days.

Speaking to media, Engineer In Chief, Water Resources, Bijay Kumar Mishra has said that a small flood like situation in the Mahanadi river system is likely as rains continue in the catchment areas. All officers have been instructed to stay alert and all departments have been alerted. The situation is being closely observed. The gates of the Hirakud Dam are being opened according to the inflow of the water into the dam.

In Balasore, tha Jalaka river has breached the danger mark near Mathani. The present water-level is 6.25 meters whereas the danger mark is 5.50 meters.
