Odisha Sizzles Under Heat Wave, Red Alert Issued For Fifteen Districts

Bhubaneswar: Many parts of Odisha are under the grip of a sizzling heat wave condition. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued red warning for severe heat wave condition in fifteen districts for two days including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur including the twin cities. Temperatures will be at peak in the next 48 hours in many places.

The IMD has also issued Orange warning for Heat wave condition that is very likely to prevail in the districts of Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Deogarh, Bargarh.

According to the MeT Department, due to prevailing mainly Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, further slight rise by in 2°C day temperature may occur at many places over the districts of Odisha during next 24 hrs. Consequently, maximum temperature (Day Temperature) likely to be above normal by 4 to 6°C over some districts of Odisha during next 3 to 4 days. People are advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during peak hours of the day time between 1100 Hrs IST-1500 Hrs IST.

Yesterday, Angul was the hottest city in the state with 44.3 degrees Celsius. Boudh and Baripada recorded temperature of more than 44 degrees. Twenty seven cities reported temperatures of more than 40 degrees in the last 24 hours.
