Hyder Encounter: Kendrapada Admin Imposes Section 144 To Thwart Any Untoward Situation

Kendrapada: The Kendrapada Collector Amrit Rituraj has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to avoid any law and order situation that may arise in view of the death of gangster Sheikh Hyder.

The Order, released late night yesterday, reads “Whereas it’s of utmost importance to avert any kind of breach of peace and untoward happenings in Kendrapara. And whereas any kind of gathering, mobilization may incite communal tension resulting in break-down of peace and tranquility. Now, therefore, anticipating threat to law and order situation, I, Amrit Ruturaj, IAS, Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Kendrapara, do hereby Impose Section 144(2) of CrPc in the jurisdiction of the Kendrapara Municipality and in GPs Barimula, Kapalaeswar, Gulnagar and Jamdhar from 11.00 PM of 24.07.2021 to 11.00 AM of 30.07.2021.”

The order prohibits gathering of more than five people for any purpose. Only Grocery, Vegetables, Non-Vegetable shops shall be open from 07.00 AM to 11.00 AM and other shops shall remain closed. Only take away will be allowed in Restaurants. Internal vehicular traffic shall be restricted 11 AM onwards every day in the above locations.

This comes after dreaded gangster Sheikh Hyder was shot in an encounter near Simulia in Balasore district when he was being taken to Baripada Jail from Choudwar jail by the officials. He succumbed to the bullet injuries at the Balasore Hospital. According to Odisha Police, they opened fire when Hyder allegedly tried to escape from the jail van.
Notably, in April this year, gangster Sheikh Hyder had managed to escape from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack while undergoing treatment in police custody and later was arrested from Telangana.
