London: Pakistan is now officially out of the semi-final race in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 despite scoring an impressive 315-9 in their final group match against Bangladesh on Friday.
The 1992 champions needed to defeat Bangladesh by a record ODI total of over 300 runs at Lord’s, but Bangladesh made the necessary eight runs in two overs to end their Asian rival’s faintest hopes of making it to semi-finals.
Pakistan, who are currently 5th on the points table with 9 points from 8 matches, 2 behind 4th-placed New Zealand, needed to beat Bangladesh by a margin of at least 311 runs to qualify for the semi-finals.
With Pakistan’s getting eliminated, New Zealand, who are sitting comfortably with a 11 points from 9 matches and a positive net run rate of +0.175 , were guaranteed the last semi-final spot with Australia, England and India already qualified.
