Indo-China Border Standoff: Global Times Chief Editor Says Chinese Military Suffers Casualties

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing India-China border standoff, the Chinese military suffered casualties in a border clash with Indian soldiers, said the Editor-in-Chief of Global Times, a newspaper known for its pro-China coverage.

“Based on what I know, Chinese side also suffered casualties in the Galwan Valley physical clash. I want to tell the Indian side, don’t be arrogant and misread China’s restraint as being weak. China doesn’t want to have a clash with India, but we don’t fear it”, Hu Xijin said in a tweet.

Earlier, chief reporter at Global Times, Wang Wenwen had reported casualties in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) after India-China LAC clashes last night.

“Reports say 5 PLA soldiers were killed and 11 were injured at LAC China-India border yesterday,” she said in a tweet.

Later on the newspaper has retracted its statement of 5 casualties and 11 non-fatal injuries in the Chinese PLA.
“The official Global Times accounts have NEVER reported the exact casualties on the Chinese side. The Global Times CANNOT confirm the number at the moment”, the paper tweeted.

The Global Times is published by the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of China’s ruling Communist Party
Notably, a violent clash took place between Indian and Chinese soldiers on late Monday night resulting in the deaths of an Indian Army officer and two jawans in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, according to reports.
