New Delhi: In a significant development, JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh, who was attacked by a masked, armed mob and received head injuries during Sunday’s violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been booked for vandalism.
Ghosh was named in one of the three complaints JNU administration had given to Delhi Police prior to the January 5 violence that were regarding the obstruction in the registration process and damaging of server.
Reacting to the FIR against JNUSU president Aishe Gosh, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar made a sarcastic comment and said,”The FIR against the president of JNUSU is totally understandable . How dare she stop a nationalist , desh Premi iron rod with her head . These anti nationals don’t even let our poor goons swing a lathi properly . They always put their bodies there . I know they love to get hurt

The CPI(M) on Tuesday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the violence in JNU, charging that he was either “complicit or incompetent.” Attacks on students and teachers at the Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday left 34 people injured. “Modi’s silence speaks loudest. A PM who cannot summon his voice when students a few kilometres away from his residence are beaten up is either complicit or incompetent. “It is now well evident that ABVP goons supported by the administration inflicted massive violence on students of JNU. Those guilty, including in the government, will have to be brought to account,” tweeted CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury.
In Mumbai, protesters who had gathered at Gateway of India to show solidarity with the students and faculty of Jawaharlal Nehru University were today shifted to Azad Maidan.
Mumbai Police said the move was taken as no permission was granted for the protest, which was leading to a law and order issue.
