June to October Period Is Crucial: CM, Asks Admin to Remain Fully Prepared for Possible Natural Disaster

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today chaired the State-Level Natural Disaster Management Committee Meeting and asked the administration to remain fully prepared to deal with any possible natural disaster.

The Chief Minister said that the period from June to October of each year is very crucial. Natural disasters like flood, cyclone and drought occur during this time. Flood and cyclone may occur at the same time. We need to strengthen our preparedness to face the disaster, the CM added.

Early information dissemination systems, rescue and relief work, drinking water systems, health and animal care systems must be prepared and maintained. The ODRAF and Fire Services personnel should remain prepared, the CM stated while adding that special attention should be given to pregnant women, people with physical and mental disabilities, children, widows and the elderly.

Odisha has become a leading State in the field of disaster management, he said.

Every life is precious. Following this policy, we should remain prepared for all possible disasters, he added.

Speaking at the meeting, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pramila Mallick briefed about the steps taken by the State Government in the field of disaster management.

She said that the State has 879 cyclone and flood shelter centres while 55 more such centres are being built with financial support from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, she added.
