New Delhi: All the four convicts of the Nirbhaya Gang rape and murder case issue have been hanged and declared dead. The convicts Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Kumar and Mukesh Kumar were executed at 5:30 am today at the Tihar Jail. Director of the Tihar Jail, Sandip Goel confirmed the hanging of the convicts to the media.
Earlier, the last minute efforts of the convicts to avoid the gallows were rejected by both the Delhi High court and the Supreme Court.
The four persons were convicted for the gruesome rape and murder of 23 year old Nirbhaya who was returning home with her friend in a bus in Delhi in December 2012. The incident had led to nationwide protests.
