Bhubaneswar: President Ram Nath Kovind today appointed Justice Sanju Panda as the acting Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
Panda was appointed as the acting Chief Justice after the retirement of Justice KS Javeri, Chief Justice, Orissa High Court.
She is the first woman judge to be appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Orissa HC.
She will take charge as Chief Justice on January 5, 2020, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Justice Panda has been serving as HC Judge since March 2007.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Kumari Justice Sanju Panda, senior-most Judge of the Orissa High Court, to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of the High Court with effect from 05th January, 2020 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri, Chief Justice, Orissa High Court”, the notification reads.
Justice Panda enrolled as an Advocate at the Orissa High Court in 1985 and has 21 years of experience in Service, Civil, Criminal, Company and Constitutional matter. She was appointed as an Additional Standing Counsel in 1994 and as Standing Counsel for Vigilance (Special Court) in 1995. Between 2001 and 2003, she worked as an Additional Standing Counsel for Commercial Tax.
She was elevated as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on March 1, 2007.
