Bhubaneswar: The world’s most acclaimed peer-reviewed medical journal, The Lancet has appreciated Odisha for its better preparedness in fighting the second wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The journal, in its latest editorial titled ‘India’s Covid-19 Emergencys’ has said that Odisha is among the few states in the country which were better prepared, and have been able to produce enough medical oxygen in this second wave to export it to other states.
This comes at a time when the state has become a saviour for other states that are grappling for liquid medical oxygen. Odisha has till date managed to send more than ten thousand tones of LMO to ten states that are in dire need of oxygen. Odisha Police is leaving no stone unturned to safely transport the Oxygen tankers by setting up a dedicated corridor and escorting the tankers.
The Lancet, which has critically reviewed the Central Government for its mismanagement, has said that the crisis has not been equally distributed, with states such as Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra unprepared for the sudden spike in cases, quickly running out of medical oxygen, hospital space, and overwhelming the capacity of cremation sites, and with some state governments threatening those asking for oxygen or a hospital bed with national security laws. Others, such as Kerala and Odisha, were better prepared, and have been able to produce enough medical oxygen in this second wave to export it to other states.
