Major Regional Parties Including BJD Support Govt’s Move on J&K

New Delhi: The Center’s move to repeal Article 370 of the Indian constitution and bifurcation of the State into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has got the support of major regional political parties of the country.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik headed Biju Janata Dal supported the move. Its Rajya Sabha leader Prassanna Acharya said “In real sense today, Jammu & Kashmir has become a part of India. My party supports this resolution. We are a regional party but for us nation is first.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also supported the Centre on its decisions on Article 370.

In a tweet, the Delhi CM said, “ We support the government on its decisions on J&K. We hope this will bring peace and development in the state”.

Other major political parties that have supported the decision include the Shiv Sena, YSRCP, TDP, BSP and the AIADMK.

Shiv Sena Parliamentarian Sanjay Raut has said, “Today, they have taken Jammu & Kashmir. Tomorrow, it will be Balochistan, PoK. I firmly believe PM’s dream of ‘Akhand Hindustan’ will come true.

On the other hand JDU and Samajwadi Party have opposed the move.

SP MP Ramgopal Yadav said Article 370 cannot be removed through a resolution, but an amendment.

Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday proposed in the Rajya Sabha to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution of India that gives special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and said the state will be split into two Union Territories.

Jammu and Kashmir will be a Union Territory with a legislature and Ladakh will be a Union Territory without a legislature.
