Bhubaneswar: Ahead of launch of his government’s ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged the doctors to be the role models for selfless public service.
Addressing the Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) about the initiative through video conference, the CM said , “The entire infrastructure, budget, medical college is finally for the people and by the peoples’ money, all these institutions exist from the citizen’s money for the benefit of the citizen. They are the real owners and it is important that we take feedback on how they feel about our services”.
“I also know that in some places middlemen interfere in the provision of health services.The Superintendents of Police present here will make sure that hospitals are free of any middlemen and take tough action against them”, Naveen said.
He said, “Through the Mo Sarkar initiative, I will be personally talking at random to patients who have availed our services. And everybody in the system will also do the same. Based on this, immediate follow up action will be taken”.
The Chief Minister also cited the example of tragic mango kernel incident of Kashipur and drew attention of the CDMOs how people had so much respect and faith on the doctor.
“Long ago in 2001 you must have heard there was the tragic Mango kernel incident of Kashipur”.
“I visited Kashipur during those days and saw — amidst all the gloom and tragedy, a bright spot in the form of the local doctor. People had so much respect and faith in him — He was the one people listened to — more than administration and the police”, the CM said.
“In fact there were 4 IAS probationers deputed to Kashipur for that incident. I told all of them to go and learn from him and follow — the good work that he was doing”, he added.
“Throughout the years, I have come across so many such doctors who are role models for selfless public service. We need more such role models throughout the State”, he further stated.
“We have had a number of successes — we had the sharpest fall in IMR among States and the world recognised our efforts in malaria”, the CM added.
The Odisha Government will launch the ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
