Mrutyunjay Mohapatra Takes Charge as IMD Director

New Delhi: Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, an Odisha-born weather scientist popularly known as the “Cyclone Man of India, assumed charge as the Director General of Meteorology of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here today.

He, who is also the Permanent Representative of India with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and Member of Executive Council, WMO, had been appointed to the coveted post on June 4.

Mohapatra has earned accolades for accurately predicting the path of devastating cyclones time and again in the past.

Prior to joining the IMD, Mohapatra served at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory in Chandipur, Balasore.
