Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the Gandhi Peace Center in Bhubaneswar. Built in association with the Aditya Birla Group, the Peace Center will rekindle Gandhi Ji’s remembrance and edify the youth his principles of Non Violence.
The Peace Center will house some of Gandhiji’s memorabilia and article used by him. The center will also have shows on the philosophy of Gandhi in Odia, Hindi and English. Built on an area of five acres near Khandagiri, the project was initiated in 2013.
Speaking on the occasion, Naveen Said I would like to thank Aditya Birla Group for its dedicated support to the Government of Odisha in coming up of “The Gandhi Centre for Peace’ here at Bhubaneswar. Its dedication today in the 150 year of the Mahatma assumes monumental significance. I pay my respectful homage to the Mahatma on this occasion.
India achieved freedom in 1947. By this time, Non-violence had become truly global, an identity of Indian-ness, and a more potent weapon than violence. It is in this context, I urged a grateful nation to pay tribute to the Mahatma by incorporating non-violence in the Preamble of the Constitution’ in his 150” year.
At the heart of the idea of non-violence, remain dialogue, reconciliation, accommodation and understanding. These values pave the way for peaceful resolution of many intractable issues of our collective life. I am sure that this ‘Gandhi Centre for Peace’ will provide an institutionalized platform to awaken consciousness about the life and works of Gandhiji and educate people to realize the deeper significance of his ideals.
