Baripada: In a major boost to the irrigation potential of Mayurbhanj District, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated two medium irrigation projects on the Subernarekha and Deo rivers.
The Chief Minister attended a special program held at Rasgobindpur and inaugurated the projects along with a number of other developmental initiatives. The two irrigation projects will help irrigate more than 70 thousand hectares of land in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore districts. The Subernarekha Irrigation Project entails an additional irrigation potential 17,121 hectares of farm land. Of this, 11,688 Hectares belong to Mayurbhanj District and 5433 hectares of Balasore District. More than fifty thousand farmers will get the benefits of the project. The Deo Irrigation Project has been built with a cost of over Rs 800 crore and more than one lakh people of hundred villages will be directly benefitted with this. This will help irrigate more than ten thousand hectares of farmland.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has said that Mayurbhanj is a land of art and culture. Mayurbhanj has a special identity in the whole of the country. The tribal brothers and sisters of Mayurbhanj have a prosperous culture. The dignity of Mayurbhanj has increased with the daughter of Mayurbhanj becoming the President of the country. Today is a happy day for the farmers of Mayurbhanj as two irrigation projects are being inaugurated. Subernarekha Irrigation Project is a big project. The Deo irrigation project will benefit more than two lakh farmer families of one hundred villages. Ten thousand hectares of farmland will be irrigated during the kharif season.
Naveen said, “Agriculture, Education, Healthcare, Food Security, Tribal welfare and Women Empowerment have always been in my focus. Be it our KALIA Yojana, Mission Shakti, Biju Swashthya Kalyana Yojana or the one rupee rice scheme, these have received the people’s respect and affection. These have made the people empowered. The transformation of the government schools under 5T Initiatives has strengthened the self confidence of the students. When a child seating is a village school of Mayurbhanj district is getting world class education and facilities, I can see not only the child or the village, but the state going forward.
“Our programs for the welfare of the tribal brothers and sisters have started bearing fruits. Our aim is to empower them through education and employment opportunities, and we have moved forward in this regard. With their skills and efficiency, the tribal students are getting fame from all around the world. Mayurbhanj is big and important district of Odisha. It has a special contribution to the development of the state. Let us all come together to take our Mayurbhanj district and Odisha to new heights. My wishes to you all on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence”, the CM said.
