Bhubaneswar: In a humanitarian gesture, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has waived off rent of Odisha Bhawan for Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
The NMCC has been using the Odisha Bhawan for quarantine of doctors and healthcare workers engaged in the treatment of COVID-19 patients since April last year.
Showing his humanity and goodwill towards the people of Mumbai at the height of COVID-19 crisis, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced to waive off rent totaling Rs 2.16 crore for the NMMC.
As directed by Naveen Patnaik, Odisha has been supplying life-saving medical oxygen to Maharashtra for the last 15 days for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
Notably, in April last year, the Chief Minister had appealed to the house owners in the State to waive off or defer the rent by three months in view of the COVID-19 lockdown.
