Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written a letter to the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Power and New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh regarding Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) Expansion Project of NTPC — Stage III (1320 MW). In his letter, Naveen has urged the Union Minister for early execution of TTPS Stage-III Project and requested him to direct NTPC to address the concerns related to closure of TTPS from 31st March 2021.
In his letter, Naveen wrote “Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) is one of the oldest thermal power stations of the country. It was set up by Government of Odisha – Stage-I (240 MW) was commissioned in 1968 and Stage-II (220 MW) in 1982. Later, NTPC acquired it in 1995.” In 2010, NTPC proposed to expand the capacity of the station and installed 2 units of 660 MW each. The TTPS Stage-III Expansion project has already got the approval of the State Government in its HLCA meeting in February 2020. However, NTPC is yet to start the execution.
Naveen also raised the issue of closer of the TTPS from 31.03.2021 which will have severe direct and indirect impact on thousands of families and the local economy. He also assured the Union Minister of all support from the State Government in this regard.
