Bhubaneswar: A whopping Rs 1.06 crore fine was collected from the traffic rule violators on the first day of enforcement of amended Motor Vehicle Act in Odisha in full throttle from Sunday.
The fine was collected from 3,870 violators of traffic rules in the State in the first 24 hours of the enforcement of the new Act, said Odisha Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera on Monday.
The police personnel and Motor Vehicle department officials issued challan to 3,870 motorists.
Around 126 persons were fined for triple riding on two-wheelers whereas 1,831 were caught for helmetless driving. As many as 48 persons were penalized for talking over mobile while riding whereas 277 were fined for over speeding.
A total of 24 motorists caught for drunken driving while 349 motorists were fined for driving four- wheelers without wearing seat belts, sources said.
The Odisha Government has re-enforced the amended Motor Vehicles Act on March 1 after a relaxation of six months.
