Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government will provide scholarship to at least 7,258 students under Kalia Chhatra Brutti Yojana for undertaking several professional course in Government-run colleges across the State, informed Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo on Thursday.
Of the 19247 students applied for KALIA Scholarship, 7,258 applicants have been selected to get the scholarship, said the Minister.
Students of 187 colleges had applied for the scholarship to purse higher studies, sources said.
Earlier this year Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced a scholarship scheme for students – Kalia Chhatra Brutti – to assist the children of Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) beneficiaries take up professional courses.
Under the scheme, the State Government will bear the educational expenses of the children chosen to enter Government professional colleges on the basis of merit.
The State Government had launched the flagship KALIA scheme to bring overall development of the farmer and farm sector.
