Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today paid his humble tributes to great social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy on his birth anniversary.
The CM said that Ram Mohan Roy will always be remembered for his crusade against prevalent social evils and orthodoxies of the time, campaign for women rights, modern education and invaluable contribution to journalism.

Ram Mohan Roy was born on 22 May 1772 in Hindu Brahmin family in Hooghly, Bengal. He was one of the founders of the Brahmo Sabha, the precursor of the Brahmo Samaj, a social-religious reform movement in the Indian subcontinent. He was given the title of Raja by Akbar II, the Mughal emperor. His influence was apparent in the fields of politics, public administration, education and religion. He was known for his efforts to abolish the practices of sati and child marriage.
