Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Benarjee over telephone this morning and congratulated her for the landslide victory of her party in the West Bengal assembly elections.
The TMC has registered a comfortable win in the assembly elections to retain power for the third consecutive time.
Meanwhile, the counting of votes in 5 of West Bengal’s 292 seats that went to the polls is still underway.
The Mamata Banerjee-led party has already won 209 seats and is leding on 4. The party, which had 209 members in the outgoing Assembly, looks set to improve its 2016 tally.
A party needed 147 seats for a simple majority in the House with an effective strength of 292.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has so far won 76 and is leading in one.
