Odisha Govt Asks Collectors to Take Steps to Prevent Crop Loss due to Unseasonal Rain

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has asked the Collectors of all districts to take necessary steps to prevent crop loss in view of the unseasonal rains across the State.

In a letter to the Collectors, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena has alerted them to take measures for avoiding crop loss in view of the unseasonal rain.

The SRC has urged the Collectors to advise farmers to shift harvested paddy to safe places and keep it properly stacked under suitable cover so as to avoid any loss/damage due to rain.

“Necessary measures should also be taken to protect paddy in mandies, if any, against rain,” the SRC said.

“Shelters/school buildings may be kept open at night for homeless/needy people for rest to protect them from the cold conditions,” he urged.

Several places in Odisha experienced drizzle and light rainfall early on Friday morning.

The Regional Meteorological Centre also issued thunderstorm & lightning warning for several districts including Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, Angul, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Kalahandi and Gajapati for the next 24 hours.
