Odisha Govt Likely to Levy COVID-19 Duty on Liquor, Shops to Be Opened Soon

Bhubaneswar: After Delhi, Telangana and Andra Pradesh, the Odisha Government is contemplating to levy an addition duty in excess of 20% on the sale of liquor to fund its COVID-19 expenditure, officials aware of the development told Thenewsroom.co.in.

According to sources, the State Excise Department has sought the approval of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for levying the COVID-19 duty on liquor.

The Odisha Government is also likely to allow reopening the liquor shops across the State with home delivery facility.

The State Government has earlier allowed the bottling plants, distilleries and breweries to go ahead with manufacturing liquor.
