Bhubaneswar: Members of Yadav community today felicitated Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the Odisha Government’s resolution demanding Centre’s nod to conduct a socio-economic caste enumeration along with the general census of 2021.
More than 1500 members of Yadav community came to Naveen Niwas to thank the Chief Minister for the historic move that will enable the identification of the socio-economic and educational status of socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC) and other backward classes/castes (OBC).
Recently, the State Cabinet under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister approved passed a resolution to move the Government of India for the conduct of SEBC along with the General Census simultaneously.
Due to unavailability of reliable and authentic data about the exact numbers of these classes, geographical areas of their spread and density has been a huge challenge in ensuring focused and outcome specific planning, the Cabinet noted.
No formal census including caste details of the population has been carried out since 1931.
It has become an impediment in taking up focused planning for the welfare of the communities, the Odisha Government said earlier.
