Odisha: National Bravery Award Winner Dies in Road Accident, CM Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex-Gratia

Kendrapara: Situ Mallick, a National Bravery Award winner from Odisha, died in a road accident in Kendrapara district today.

The 15-year old boy, who had received the bravery award for saving his uncle from the jaws of an estuarine crocodile, died in the mishap that occurred when a tipper truck and a motorcycle collided head-on at Jari chhak under Rajanagar police limits in the district this evening.

A relative of Situ was also killed in the collision, while three others sustained critical injuries, according to reports.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep shock at the incident and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families.

The Chief Minister announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of the kin of the deceased.

Situ Mallick, who hailed from Kandira village in the district, had received the Indian Council for Child Welfare’s (ICCW) National Bravery Award-2018 earlier this year for saving his 28-year-old uncle’s life February 20, 2018.
