Berhampur: Raikia Tahasildar in Kandhamal district was caught red-handed by the vigilance sleuths while accepting bribe on Thursday.
The corrupt official has been identified as Chakradhar Padhi.
Padhi was caught red-handed in his official quarters by the officers of Berhampur Vigilance Division while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.40,000.
The Tahasildar was demanding illegal gratification from one Senapati Pradhan of Mandakia village for releasing a tractor loaded with stones engaged in MGNRA work.
The bribe money has been recovered from the table of his quarters.
The office and official quarters of the accused at Raikia are being searched, informed Berhampur Vigilance Division SP Santanu Kumar Padhi.
Arrangements have been made for the search of the Tahasildar’s house at Jajpur, the Vigilance SP added.
