Bhubaneswar: The IMD predicts that a low pressure area is likely to form over South Andaman Sea by November 30. The system is likely to move west northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over south east and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal by December 2.
In view of it, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to district administrations to remain alert and closely monitor the situation.
The situation may be closely monitored and action as deemed necessary be taken in case of any eventuality. The fishermen advice needs to be implemented strictly and all of them should be back to the shore by December 1, the advisory said.
“The harvested paddy may be shifted to safe places and kept properly stacked to check damage. Where the paddy crops are ready for harvest, steps may be taken to expedite the process and stocked safely,” it added.
As per the IMD, heavy rain is likely to occur one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri on December 3 with a possible low-pressure area forming the south Andaman Sea by Tuesday.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely to occur at many places in South coastal Odisha, a few places in North Coastal Odisha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and at one or two places in the rest of the state.
The predicted system may intensify into a cyclone as the probability of cyclogenesis over the Bay of Bengal after 96-120 hours is ‘High’, according to the IMD’s tropical weather outlook.
