Odisha to Make Disaster and Pandemic Preparedness a Part of School Curriculum

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today passed a resolution to make disaster and pandemic preparedness a part of the curriculum of the schools and colleges.

Addressing the Council of Ministers on completion of second year of his government’s fifth term, Naveen said, “We have to continue to learn to deal with disasters and keep improving our systems and adapt to the impact of the climatic changes. It’s a matter of survival for our society and we will leave no stone unturned to make our State strong and capable in this regard”.

“Today, the Council of Ministers passed the resolution to make disaster and pandemic preparedness a part of the curriculum of the schools and colleges”, Naveen said.

Every student, elected representative, government official, Misson sakti members, and so on will be trained in disaster and pandemic preparedness. This is a historic step and will enable and empower our future generations to withstand the vagaries of nature whether its biological or climatic, the CM said.

The Council of Ministers has resolved to undertake systematic and detailed training programs to equip our citizens with adequate knowledge and skills in disaster and pandemic management and make Odisha a leading state in Disaster preparedness – ready to tackle any disaster whether its biological or climatic.

Basically the objective is to have a Yodha in every home of Odisha, the Chief Minister said while adding that a task force will be formed to carry forwad this mission of building a disaster and pandemic resilient Odisha. This will be our biggest preparation for future emergencies.

Odisha will stand out in saving peoples lives. It flows from our realisation that community preparedness is key to disaster management, the CM added.
