Odisha To Teach Lessons On Disaster Management To Officials From Nine States And Four UTs

Bhubaneswar: With Odisha being the leading state in the country in disaster management and getting accolades from within and outside the country, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Missouri, has nominated the state to train the officials in Disaster Management. As part of this, workshop is being organized in which officials from nine States and four Union Territories will participate.

Chief Secretary Suresh Mahapatra is scheduled to inaugurate the workshop to be held for three days at the Gopabandhu Academy of Administration in Bhubaneswar from 29th September. Senior officials including District Collectors and others from nine coastal states including Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andaman And Nicobar, Lakshadweep will participate in the workshop. Twenty two Indian Administrative Service Officers from these states will not only participate in the workshop but also get an hands on experience from the ground regarding Disaster Management at Ramachandi near Konark.

Live demonstrations such as rescue operations from flood waters, various aspects of motor boat operations during disasters, tree cutting, road clearance, etc., will be made for the visiting officials.

The participants of the workshop will recommend their respective governments on implementing the disaster management practices as learnt from their learning in the workshop. Odisha State Disaster Mitigation Authority has prepared a detailed training module for the workshop which has been approved by the state government.
