Odisha Weather Update: IMD Issues Red Warning for Six Districts

 Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a red warning for six interior districts of Odisha.

The districts are Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

Under the influence of a depression, these districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall, predicts an IMD bulletin.

The deep depression in south Jharkhand and neighbouring areas has moved in a west-north-west direction with a speed of about 28 kmph in the last six hours. It has weakened into a depression and lay centered over north-east Chhattisgarh, about 90 km east-south-east of Ambikapur in that state and about 140 km west-south-west of Ranchi in Jharkhand. It is very likely to move in the west-north-west direction and weaken gradually, the bulletin said.

It further said there was possibility of moderate rainfall at some places in Odisha in the next 24 hours and fishermen were alerted against venturing into the sea during this period. Besides, all the ports in Odisha were asked to hoist local cautionary signal no-3.

In the last 24 hours, Balangir recorded highest rainfall at 212 mm followed by Jharsuguda (167.5), Koraput (125.4), Sonepur (99.2), Hirakud (80.2), Sundargarh (74), Titlagarh (70.8), Chandbali (67.9), Bhawanipatna (58.2), Sambalpur (56.7), Keonjhar (52.2), Daringbadi (40), Malkangiri (29.4), Gopalpur (28.6), Cuttack (24.4), Angul (16.8), Bhubaneswar (13.8), Talcher (12) and Baripada (11).
