Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s architectural marvel Krushi Bhavan has added another feather to its hat, emerging as People’s Choice Winner in Social Good category at the prestigious AZ Awards 2020.
The Krushi Bhavan is the only project from India to have achieved this major global recognition.
Expressing happiness over the feat, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the award is dedicated to farmers & artisans of Odisha, the inspiration behind design of this building.
The Krushi Bhawan is an inclusive administrative centre in Odisha that celebrates regional craft and community empowerment with free-flowing public amenities, said AZURE, a leading multi-platform media brand with a focus on contemporary architecture and design.
A vital model of inclusive architecture in support of rural populations, Krushi Bhawan illustrates how a government facility can be a vehicle for the patronage and preservation of local culture, craftsmanship and economy, it said.
The 12,077-square-metre Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment is a floor-to-ceiling canvas for local artisans, its every surface imbued with textures and motifs unique to Odishan culture. A pleasant breezeway inspired by traditional open-air markets called haats connects public learning spaces on the ground floor, providing comfortable, shaded areas for informal gatherings and knowledge-sharing, the magazine said.
The AZ Awards is AZURE’s international architecture and design competition, recognizing excellence and innovation, and showcasing the world’s best projects, products and ideas.
Earlier, the Krushi Bhawan, one of the marvelous architectural edifices of modern day Odisha, has featured in Dezeen, the world’s most influential architecture, interiors and design magazine.

Earlier this year, the Krushi Bhawan was highly commended at the World Architecture Festival held in Amsterdam. It also won the Supreme Award and awards for public building exterior & interior at Surface Design Awards 2020.
