Berhampur: In a breakthrough, the Berhampur Police has busted an online betting racket and arrested eight bookies including the kingpin.
The police also seized cash worth more than Rs 8.63 lakh and 11 mobile phones from the bookies.
The arrested persons are Jagannath Choudhuty(33) of Lanjipalli Padhi Colony, Santosh Ku. Nayak(41) of Haladiapadar, Ajit Ku. Sahu(34) of Baidya Street, Gosani Nuagaon, Sabya Sachi Padhi(35) of Ambika Nagar lst Lane Berhampur, Kritiranjan Satapathy @ Srinu of Ambika Nagar lst Lane Berhampur, Niladri Padhi(32) of Bijipur, Berhampur, Ramprasad Choudhury (34) of Gosani Nuagaon Main road and Binod Panda(37) of Salia Bandha Sahi G.Nuagaon.
Based on credible information regarding online betting, a team of police personnel led by Baidyanathpur PS SI B.B.Sethy conducted raid at Lanjipalli. During raid the police found the bookies indulged in online betting through www.sky.exchange.com and www.nice5555.net using their mobile phones.
The police seized Rs 8,63,200 cash from the possession of the accused and during house search of the prime accused Jagannath Choudhury.
All the accused persons were arrested and will be forwarded to court. The investigation is in progress, informed Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra.
