Ram Vilas Paswan: The Stalwart Of Socialist Movement

Ram Vilas Paswan, one of the tallest leaders in Bihar and founder of the Lok Janshakti Party, has passed away at the age of 74 in Delhi’s Fortis Hospital on Thursday.

Paswan had been in active politics for more than five decades. He has served as a union minister under several Prime Ministers and his party has been a member of all national coalitions. A ninth time Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha, Paswan was one of the country’s most noted Dalit leader.

Top leaders across the country tweeted their condolence messages on demise of Ram Vilas Paswan.

President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted his condolences, “In the demise of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, the nation has lost a visionary leader. He was among the most active and longest-serving members of parliament. He was the voice of the oppressed and championed the cause of the marginalized.”

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu deeply saddened by the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan. He tweeted, “Deeply anguished by the demise of Union Minister, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji. He was an exemplary leader who served the people and nation till his last breath. He was a distinguished parliamentarian and always strove for the empowerment of the marginalised. His death is a personal loss to me as I have had a long and enriching association with him full of many pleasant memories that I deeply cherish. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. Om shanti!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to the family and tweeted, “Working together, shoulder to shoulder with Paswan Ji has been an incredible experience. His interventions during Cabinet Meetings were insightful. From political wisdom, statesmanship to governance issues, he was brilliant. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”

Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Minister of Steel Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted, “Saddened to learn about the passing away of veteran politician and Union Min. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan. A leader of the masses and a long-serving parliamentarian, his life was devoted to the cause of the poor and the vulnerable. May Lord Jagannath grant peace to his departed soul.”

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted, “Deeply saddened to know the passing away of Union Cabinet Minister Ram Vilas Paswan ji. He was a popular leader having long experience in politics. My thoughts & prayers are with the bereaved family and friends of the veteran leader. May his soul rest in peace”.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also expressed grief over the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan. He said, “Extremely sad to hear about the demise of Union Minister #RamvilasPaswan’ji. A long time Parliamentarian, his contribution to public life will be remembered . My condolences to family members, @iChiragPaswan in this hour of bereavement. May his soul rest in peace.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Ram Vilas Paswan Ji. He was a veteran politician, leader and a long-time Parliamentarian. My condolences to his family, colleagues and his many admirers.”

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has also expressed deep grief over the passing away of Ram Vilas Paswan. “The Dalit leader and Lok Janshakti Party (LSP) Chief with over five decades of public life has been the voice of downtrodden,” the Chief Minister said.
